Frequently Asked Questions
Initial Assessment
What do I wear to my initial assessment?
Wear clothes that you feel comfortable to move in. Normal gym gear is fine – just remember that longer pants may be more suitable for some of the flexibility components.
Why do I need an initial assessment?
An initial assessment with the Exercise Physiologist is the time when you will be oriented with the equipment and taught the movements and exercises that will be on your individually designed program. It is also an opportunity to discuss any injury or pain you may have.
Even though you may have been to Pilates in the past, the initial assessment is a requirement for all new clients at Elemental Pilates.
General
How is this different to studio pilates?
Our group sessions have a maximum of 5 people. Each with an individualised program tailored to suit their specific needs and preferences. This can be anything from floor based exercises to Pilates equipment based exercises and maybe some cardiovascular exercise for good measure. With smaller groups, your technique can be closely monitored and exercises progressed as needed or desired.
How many times a week should I do Pilates?
Once a week will help you remember what to do.
Twice a week helps you push on and improve all areas of your strength and mobility.
Three times a week will keep you in peak physical control and wellbeing.
How long does a session take?
1 hour is allocated to all initial assessments and group classes. Sometimes it can take less due to what is required or how you are feeling that day.
Can I claim on my Health Fund?
Exercise Physiology is claimable with most health funds and our Exercise Physiologist has a Medicare provider number. The health fund codes we use are:
102 – Initial Session – once only per course of treatment
202 – Standard Consultation (30 – 60 minutes)
302 – Extended Consultation (over 60 minutes)
402 – Standard consultation requiring travel
502 – Group Session (60 minutes)
You can also use a health action plan worked out with your GP to utilise 5 one on one sessions per year with the exercise physiologist. Your GP can support you through this process.
The claiming process is different for each Health Fund, but most, if not all, will require you to have attended the sessions that you are claiming. This means that if you buy a pack of 10 sessions, you can only claim the cost of the pack once you have used all the sessions.
